Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. The website hosts videos with commentary that analyze the depictions of women in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit website that focuses on female representations in popular cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture she also seeks to bring attention to harassment targeted at women and the other marginalized groups of individuals in the internet world. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she is extremely sought-after and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age Sarkeesian was captivated by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. While still at school in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. It was a girl who wanted to create an online series to examine the gender representations in games. But, she was the victim of online harassment. However, the attacks did not hinder her.
