
DeWitt started performing on stage at the age of 13. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree at Ball State University. In the summer of her stock production she was enticed by the director to enroll at UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was given the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed she did not meet actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She worked as secretary while at UCLA. DeWitt is most well-known for her role in Three's Company's 1977-1984 run as Janet Wood. This was an opportunity she was offered after being cast in the second pilot. Janet also appeared in the episode of The Ropers in the year 1979. Following the show's conclusion, Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in the year 1984, after which she quit acting for a few years. In June 1991, she resumed acting by performing in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She also appeared in Spring Fling, a 1995 TV comedy. A character who was based on her voice, which was voiced by another actress, appeared in a 1997 episode on Pinky and the Brain. The actress appeared on an episode of Cybill, and had an appearance on the last episode of Living Single. A few of her 2000s TV works include Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as along with Call of the Wild.
